ADULT BOXING CLASSES
Boxing
is a combat sport and martial art in which two people fight using their fists
for competition. Boxing is typically supervised by a referee or official
A boxing match is a series of one to three minute intervals called rounds and boxers are generally of similar weight and size.
There are three ways to win a boxing match. The first is known as a knockout or KO this occurs if one of the boxers is knocked out and is un-able to get up before the referee counts to ten seconds. the second is known as a technical knockout or TKO this occurs when one of the boxers is deemed to be to injured to continue with the bout. The third and final way to win a boxing match occurs if there is no stoppage of the fight before the agreed number of rounds, a winner is determined either by the referee's decision or judge's score cards.
Boxing was first accepted as an Olympic sport in 688 BC, at the time it was called Pygme or Pygmachia. Participants trained on punching bags called korykos which are very similar to the one modern boxers use today. Fighters wore leather straps called himantes over their hands to protect them from injury.
