Wrestling CLASSES

Wrestling is an ancient form of martial arts that uses grappling type techniques such as clinch fighting, throws, takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds.

A wrestling bout is a physical competition, between two competitors, who attempt to gain and maintain a superior position over one another to win the match

There are a wide range of styles with varying rules with both traditional and modern styles. Over the years wrestling techniques have been incorporated into many other martial arts as well as military hand to hand combat and many other modern fighting systems in use today. Wrestling is by far one of the oldest forms of combat with references to it as early as the Iliad, in which Homer recounts the Trojan war in the 12th or 13th century's BC. In ancient Greece, wrestling occupied a prominent place in legend and literature, wrestling competition was extremely brutal in many aspects but was the number one sport at the early Olympics.

We offer both adult and children's wrestling classes that teach basic skills as well as the most advanced wrestling techniques and styles used by today's top mixed martial artists. There are some important factors to be considered before taking your first wrestling class to insure it's fun, productive and safe. Here are a few tips for anyone who would like to take wrestling classes.

Consider your current level of fitness. Don't make an aggressive wrestling program your first foray into this type of exercise program. If you have arthritis, tight hamstrings an inflexible back or other physical limitations you'll want to start in one of the slower paced classes to be sure that wrestling is going to be the right type of exercise program for your particular physical situation and abilities. Even if you think your in good shape and have been in a cross training program, take it easy until your body adapts to the new types of moves you will be performing in our classes.

If your just starting out get in Empire Training Center's beginners class where you will get an introduction to the techniques used in the more advanced classes. Learn the basic moves and do them until you feel comfortable with them, then progressively move into the more advanced classes to insure that you get the best workout from your wrestling classes at Empire Training Center
